War Stories

Every war has events that will become indelibly etched upon the minds of those who witness those events.  Some are humorous - even downright funny. Others portray the horrors of war that never leave the memories of those who saw them.

This section is dedicated to preserving the stories that have been handed down from the men who flew with the 445th Bomb Group.

Frank Federici is a former Navigator who flew with the 700th Bomb Squadron on some of the roughest missions flown by the 445th Bomb Group. After the war, he and other members of his crew, put to pen-and-ink what it was like to fly in combat.

William Dewey is a former pilot with the 701st Bomb Squadron.  He was in command of one of the four B-24's to return to Tibenham after the disasterous Kassel mission of 27 September 1944. He later founded the Kassel Mission Memorial Association which, in 2005, became the Kassel Mission Historical Society.
