Post Mark for 60th Anniversary of the USAF

On September 18, 2007, the United States Postal Service will honor the 60th Anniversary of the Air Force with a Commemorative Pictorial Cancellation. A Pictorial Cancellation is a unique postmark offered by the U.S. Postal Service to commemorate special events. Items that are canceled using a commemorative design are usually in very limited quantity and are highly sought after by stamp collectors and others interested in U.S. postal history.

The postmark being offered is a B-24J in flight. In August, 2007, the United States Postal Service will be offering a "forever" stamp with the likeness of Jimmy Stewart on it, honoring those celebrities who served during World War II.  James M. Stewart served as the 703rd Bomb Squadron's commanding officer and flew ten missions with the 445th, usually as Air Commander for the Group or a particular squadron on those missions.

The Cancellation Notice link below details how to get your own copy of the cancellation mark.  The "Maxi Card" is a special commemorative card created by the 700th Airlift Squadron. If you are interested in obtaining your own copy of this card, contact the webmaster for details.
